Miami Open: Iga Świątek says she's "on a roll" as win streak continues

It’s been quite the month for 20-year-old Iga Świątek.

After winning the Indian Wells Masters to mark her second consecutive title victory this year, she became the top ranked player in the world following the retirement of Ashleigh Barty.

Now, she is gunning for her sixth career title as she prepares to fight for her place in the final of the Miami Open.

Świątek won both the Qatar Open and the Indian Wells Masters to mark the perfect start to 2022.

The Polish star beat the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Simona Halep to secure back-to-back titles, putting her in great stead to challenge for another cup in Miami.

Świątek will take on USA’s Jessica Pegula in the semi-final on Friday, and will book her spot against either Belinda Bencic or Naomi Osaka in the final if she is successful.

The former French Open champion is yet to drop a set in the tournament and is hoping to take her run of good form into this next match in the States.

“I want to use the confidence that I built since the beginning of Doha,” Świątek said. “I’m on a roll and I want to use that.

“Having that kind of streak got pretty tricky, but I’m pretty glad that I could play well, that I’m healthy, and that I can compete against players like Petra [Kvitová]. She’s a legend.”

Świątek’s rise to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2018, the young star was ranked 175th in the world — less than a year later, she had skyrocketed more than 126 places into the top 50.

After winning the French Open in 2020 — where she became the first ever Pole to win a Grand Slam title — she has become one of the leading names in women’s tennis.

Now waiting on her official world number one status, the world is at Świątek’s feet and she is on a superb winning streak
