Mercedes say bouncing no longer an issue in boost to Lewis Hamilton & George Russell

Mercedes‘ Andrew Shovlin says that the W13 no longer has issues with bouncing.

The Silver Arrows were one of the early casualties of the new rules being introduced at the start of the campaign, with them falling away from their status as the quickest team on the grid, as Red Bull and Ferrari stole a march on them.

In the time since, though Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have done a good job at picking up results, we have seen their drivers put through the mill at times, with porpoising and bouncing affecting their car pretty much worser than any other team’s, and that has, at times, impacted set-up and therefore lap time and pace.

However, in more recent races we have seen gradual improvement for Merc and the results have been getting better and better, with Russell sealing the team’s first pole of the season last time out at the Hungaroring.

That first win of the year might be just around the corner when the second part of the season kicks off, then, and Shovlin’s comments only serve to back up that suggestion as he has revealed that they no longer have a problem with bouncing.

“Bouncing is no longer an issue at all,” said Shovlin, quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.

Another team member told the same outlet, meanwhile, that the Silver Arrows can now fully focus on further car development, as they look to close the gap further to Red Bull and Ferrari:

“We still have a few things in the quiver, nothing spectacular but things that will take us further.

“We are no longer going around in circles but are now moving forward continuously. Also with the set-up.”
