Memphis Depay penalty: Fan footage of Barcelona star's masterpiece v Elche

The year of 2022 has been a bright one for Football Club Barcelona thus far.

Xavi Hernandez’s side are beginning to show clear signs of recovery after a dismal run of form under previous manager Ronald Koeman.

Last Sunday’s priceless 2-1 victory away at Elche means Barcelona currently sit third in the La Liga table and they’re just seven points behind second-placed Sevilla with a game in hand.

Things are finally looking up for the Blaugrana, although the team was made to work incredibly hard for three points against Elche.

Despite stylishly seeing off the likes of Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Athletic Bilbao in previous matches, Barcelona came within minutes of dropping precious points to a team near the relegation zone.

The home side took the lead in the first half through Fidel and Barcelona had to wait until 15 minutes after the restart to equalise through January arrival Ferran Torres.

Then in the 84th-minute of play, Memphis Depay fired the Catalan outfit into the lead from the penalty spot and the Dutchman’s effort from 12 yards was absolutely magical.

The former Manchester United man’s penalty was pure perfection and there isn’t a goalkeeper on the planet who would have got anywhere near the ball.

And as is commonplace in the modern world, one fan in attendance managed to perfectly capture Depay’s pressure spot kick from behind the goal.

The footage is even better than that broadcast on television screens around the world, as it proves just how ‘unsaveable’ the shot into the top corner was.
