Megan Connolly forced off early as Arsenal extend WSL lead after beating Brighton
Republic of Ireland midfielder Megan Connolly was forced off after 22 minutes as Brighton lost 2-1 at Women's Super League leaders Arsenal.
England international Beth Mead proved to be the difference for the Gunners who had to battle back from a deficit to overcome their opponents as they extended their lead at top of the division.
Trailing to the visitors' first goal in eight matches, Mead's free-kick presented Vivianne Miedema with a tap-in before she whipped home a direct set-piece as they moved four points clear of Chelsea.
Arsenal were rocked in the 15th minute by Emma Koivisto's twisting back-header from 10 yards which looped over Manuela Zinsberger, who was barely off her line. Koivisto had already produced a goal-line clearance at the other end.
Connolly was then withdrawn in an enforced substitution midway through the first half.
22': An enforced change for Albion, as Connolly is replaced by Whelan.
