McLaren's Zak Brown explains similarities between Lando Norris & Lewis Hamilton

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown says that he sees similarities between Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton and has labelled the young Briton as a ‘world champion in the making.’

The new Formula 1 season kicks off this weekend with the Bahrain Grand Prix and both Norris and Hamilton will be looking to get their respective campaigns off to bright starts at the Sakhir circuit on Sunday.

Certainly, it’s a season that should offer hope to most given the new regulations being brought in and McLaren will be hoping to build further on recent years of progress, with Norris in particular shining last campaign.

Now in possession of a bumper multi-year contract, it is clear that Norris is a driver that McLaren firmly believe in in terms of helping bring success back to the team on a regular basis and, indeed, Brown has underlined that fact in saying that he is a world champion in the making:

“I always thought he’s a world champion in the making,” Brown told Standard Sport. “He’s as fast as anyone and he rarely makes mistakes. He doesn’t make big mistakes.”

Indeed, to further highlight how impressed Brown is with Lando, the American then compared him to 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton in terms of how he keeps his cool behind the wheel:

“Take Lewis, he is extremely smart. Look at how Lewis raced in Saudi. That was such a highly intelligent drive, forget about the speed.

“He avoided three or four accidents with a damaged car. That was his experience and intelligence, and not getting emotional in the race car.

“He just seems to drive with a plan and a mission. Lando does the same thing. I’ve never seen Lando emotional in a race car.”

High praise indeed for Lando who really did excel last season for McLaren.
