McIlroy surges into contention at weather-delayed Tour Championship
Rory McIlroy closed the gap to leader Scottie Scheffler to four shots before a weather warning stopped play on day three of the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
McIlroy had started the day nine shots behind the American but got off to a flyer with birdies on 2 and 3.
The Down man dropped a shot on 4 but bounced back with a superb eagle on the par-five sixth hole and added further birdies on 8 and 13.
He was in fourth place and five-under-par thru 15 when play stopped due to lightning in the area.
Xander Schafuffle was a shot behind Scheffler on -18 (thru 12) with Sungjae Im -16 (thru 14).
Play will resume at 2.45pm Irish time with the final round expected to get under way from 4.16pm.
