McDonald's customers queue round the corner as stores reopen after Queen's funeral

Hungry customers queued around the block as McDonald's branches reopened this evening. The fast food giant shut its 1,300 UK restaurants today as a mark of respect on the day of the Queen's funeral.

However, all outlets were allowed to reopen from 5pm. At a McDonald's branch in Woodfields Retail Park, Bury, up to a dozen cars waited patiently outside for the restaurant to open its doors.

As the clock struck five, a member of staff removed a series of orange traffic cones to allow customers to enter the car park. McDonald's was one of many retailers that decided to close its doors today after a bank holiday was declared across the UK.

Businesses were not officially required to close but many chose to shut their doors as a mark of respect to the late Queen.

Announcing its plans to shut during the Queen's funeral, a McDonald's spokesperson said: "In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to enable everyone at McDonald's to pay their respects, our restaurants across the UK will be closed from midnight until 5pm on Monday, 19th September."
