McClenaghan suffered heartbreak at last summer's the Olympic Games when he came off the apparatus early in his routine to finished out of the medals in seventh. He had been highly fancied to make the podium.
"I know that I'll feel disappointment but that's okay. When I do feel disappointment that's when I'm more motivated," he said at the time.
There was another medal for Ireland as Adam Steele claimed bronze in the men's floor.
Steele totalled 13.933, with Paul Juda of the USA second [14.333] and Israels Artem Dolgopyat first [14.500].
