Mayo Saturday request rejected as league final dates confirmed

Mayo's request for their Division 1 final against Galway to be held on Saturday has failed with their clash with Galway scheduled for 4pm on Sunday at Croke Park.

Kevin McStay’s side face Roscommon in the Connacht championship on Sunday, 9 April and it is understood that as well as a county board request, the Mayo players also penned a letter asking for an extra day’s preparation for that quarter-final encounter in Castlebar.

The all-Connacht league final will be preceded by the Division 2 final between Derry and Dublin, which has a 1.45pm throw-in time.

Having played together at Croke Park numerous times for Armagh and Crossmaglen, Oisín McConville and Tony McEntee will go head-to-head on Saturday as McConville’s Wicklow and McEntee’s Sligo meet in the Division 4 final at 5pm.

This will be followed by the all-Ulster Division final between Cavan and Fermanagh at 7.15pm. The Erne County won Sunday’s fixture between the two counties to secure their promotion to the second tier, although Offaly’s loss to Down meant that the result at Kingspan Breffni was ultimately irrelevant.
