‘Maybe the Champions League’ – Guimaraes insists Newcastle want to ‘fight’ for Europe in 22/23

Bruno Guimaraes has suggested that Newcastle United are eager to “fight” for a place in Europe next season under their manager Eddie Howe.

The Saudi-led takeover of the Magpies was completed earlier this season. They now have significant funds at their disposal.

Guimaraes was the perfect January signing to kickstart a Newcastle United revolution

Guimaraes signed for them in January from French side Lyon for around £40m. They also brought in Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn and Matt Targett.

Howe replaced Steve Bruce at Newcastle back in November. Under him, they have been in great form over the past few months.

The Magpies have won ten of their last 14 games in the Premier League. They were battling for survival but they are now ninth in the table with four games to go.

Guimaraes thinks Newcastle’s “sprint” to safety is the start of a “beautiful story”:

“We have already achieved our main objective which was to get Newcastle out of relegation,” Guimarães told ESPN Brasil (via Sport Witness).

“We made 43 points, we are in ninth place and we had a historic sprint. With the new owners, the project for next season is very interesting. A beautiful story begins.”
