Mauricio Pochettino 'reaches agreement' to leave PSG after Champions League failure

Mauricio Pochettino and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement which will see the manager leave the club just two months after leading them to the Ligue 1 title, according to reports.

Pochettino, 50, is under contract in the French capital until the summer of 2023 having arrived in January 2021 as Thomas Tuchel's replacement. He led PSG to the Coupe de France during his first half-season and followed that up by winning the first league title of his managerial career this campaign.

However, PSG failed to retain the domestic cup and were knocked out of the Champions League under embarrassing circumstances, tossing away a 2-0 aggregate lead in their defeat by Real Madrid. The Parc des Princes club are desperate to be crowned European champions for the first time, so this came as a bitter blow.

As a result, The Athletic claims Pochettino's spell in the PSG dugout has come to an end by mutual agreement, with an announcement expected in the near future. The report claims the former Tottenham boss met with the club's hierarchy last week and they decided parting ways would be best for both parties.

The final details still need to be finalised but PSG are already looking to the future, with Christophe Galtier among the names in consideration to succeed Pochettino. Galtier, 55, manages Nice - who knocked PSG out of the Coupe de France at the last-16 stage - and previously led Lille to the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 campaign.
