Mauricio Pochettino could change Bruno Fernandes' role at Manchester United

A number of players look set to leave Manchester United this summer. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata are all out of contract and are expected to depart.

None of those players will form part of the new-look version of the Red Devils next season under Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag or somebody else. Bruno Fernandes, on the other hand, looks set to remain as integral as ever.

The Portuguese midfielder is in the process of negotiating a new deal at the club. Now 27 years-old, Fernandes looks ready to deliver his prime years of performance under the next coach at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen how the next man in charge will use him. Fernandes is typically described as a no.10 but based on how Pochettino used a certain Christian Eriksen while leading Tottenham Hotspur some years ago, things could change.

During his time in charge of Spurs, Pochettino had Dele Alli at his disposal and the English youngster was quite a difference-maker back then. As a result, he was deployed as the team's no.10, behind Harry Kane.

Eriksen was used on the right of the team's 4-2-3-1 system, despite his creative profile, lack of pace and preference to operate between the lines, much like Fernandes. The Dane wasn't a typical winger in terms of possessing speed, dribbling ability and goals in abundance, but he was smart enough to form part of a unit.

Pochettino harnessed Eriksen's deliveries in particular. On a regular basis, he would assume possession in areas typically occupied by Kevin Be Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold, before crossing into the penalty box towards Kane and Dele.
