Maura Higgins claps back at cruel online trolls over 'too skinny' remarks

Maura Higgins has hit out at online trolls who accuse her of being 'too thin' as she says she won't change her looks to please 'random people online'.

The Irish TV personality, who rose to fame in the 2019 series of Love Island, revealed she's done with lip filler and has ruled out a boob job, saying the thought 'petrifies her'.

The 31-year-old reality star won praise during the ITV2 show for her confidence and direct approach.

But a caveat of being in the limelight is that she is often targeted by trolls with comments on her appearance.

Opening up in an interview with Fabulous magazine, she said: "I get it all the time. I get it so much. People writing: ‘Go and get a boob job’ or, ‘You’re too skinny.’”

Maura argued people wouldn't dish out the same remarks for being overweight and that she consoles in her mother.

“I can be bad for [reading the comments]. But I’ve got better. Now I’m a bit like: ‘I’m 31 – whatever.’

"Mammies do have the best advice. I tell mine everything, and I mean everything. There’s nothing I don’t tell her.

"I’ve always spoken to my mammy about it and asked: ‘Why is it OK for people to turn around to your face and say: ‘God, you’re too skinny’?" she said.

"Would you ever say to somebody: ‘God, you’re too fat’? No, you wouldn’t.”

Despite receiving constant negative comments from strangers online, Maura, who has her own make-up range, doesn't let it play into her insecurities.

She explained: “I don’t need a boob job, because I feel sexy with the size of my boobs. I’m not going to get one to suit what some random person tells me.

“[Though] if it’s going to help somebody else feel more confident [to have surgery], then work away. I would be petrified of the boob surgery anyway. I watch that [E!] TV
