Mattia Binotto confirms Ferrari upgrades set for Spanish Grand Prix

Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto has confirmed that the Scuderia are planning on bringing upgrades to the Spanish Grand Prix as they aim to maintain their title challenge.

The Maranello-based team are locked in what looks as though it could be a year-long championship fight with Red Bull and fans are buckled in for what lies ahead.

The development race is going to be crucial, then, as the two teams try to improve their respective cars better than the other and, with the Spanish Grand Prix up next, a host of upgrades are expected up and down the paddock.

The race in Barcelona regularly sees teams bringing a swathe of tweaks to try on their cars and, indeed, Binotto has confirmed that Ferrari are aiming to do the same, as they bid to keep up with the development Red Bull are showing:

“I hope because there is a budget cap that at some stage Red Bull will stop developing, otherwise I would not understand how they can do that – but let’s see in the next races,” Binotto said via the F1 website.

“It could be at least our turn to try to develop as much as we can the car by introducing upgrades, and I think it’s not a surprise that we may have a package in Barcelona, which will be important for us.

“As usual, I hope the package we are introducing is working as expected and in that case, it can be a good boost in order to try and catch up the current gap we’ve got to the Red Bull.”

We’re at an exciting time of the year as we get towards a gaggle of European races which will naturally give more shape to the championship fights.

It’s clear it’s Ferrari v Red Bull at the moment, though, and both teams will be working around the clock to even get just a tenth of a second in terms of edge.
