"Massive frustration for everybody" – Journalist drops West Brom claim on big ongoing situation

Daryl Dike’s latest setback is a “massive frustration for everybody involved” at West Brom, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The American striker has been restricted to just a handful of appearances since making the £7m move from Orlando City in January.

Having arrived hoping to bolster West Brom’s attacking options and improve their chances of promotion, Dike has featured just twice in a Baggies shirt.

In the second of those outings, Dike suffered a hamstring problem, which has forced him to spend more than two months on the sidelines.

However, the young striker was expected to return on Monday in an Under-23s game, and Bruce hinted that he could even be on the bench for the draw at Bristol City last weekend.

Unfortunately for Bruce, he confirmed that Dike had sustained a setback in his tendon in the same leg and revealed that West Brom wouldn’t be taking any chances, meaning he wasn’t on the bench at Ashton Gate.

He said: “He was uncomfortable in training, and we didn’t want to take any risks. Something was niggling at him, and we just have to make sure we take every precaution we have to take.

“It’s not quite the original hamstring injury, it’s a tendon further down in the same leg I’m led to believe and we’re not taking any gambles with that.”

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a massive frustration for everybody involved. West Brom were hoping to have Dike back for the last few weeks of the season to see if they can make a late charge up the table.”

The international break will give Dike extra time to recover from his setback, with West Brom not back in action until they travel to Birmingham for a Midlands
