Masonic hall set to become 30 homes

Plans to demolish Sale Masonic Hall and convert the former Sale Police Station to make way for 20 apartments and 10 houses on the site have been approved.

There will be nine three and 11 two-bedroom apartments as well as two one- bedroom, six two-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses. All the properties on the Tatton Road site will be available for shared ownership.

A three-storey residential block will replace the vacant masonic hall, built in 1882. Southway Housing Trsut’s plans do not include car parking spaces, but 30 cycle bays will be provided.

Meanwhile, the height of the block has been cut down by removing proposals for the top floor and dispersing homes across to the also-vacant police station.

Trafford councillors have also given the go-ahead to the rebuilding of the specialist day school St John Vianney in Rye Bank Road, Stretford.

Kier Construction got the thumbs up on behalf of the Department for Education under its £1bn rebuilding programme.

A 48,200 sq ft school will take shape with state-of-the-art facilities after the existing building is bulldozed, but the work will take place alongside the current school to minimise disruption.

The plans include a 700 sq ft sensory room, a fitness suite of the same dimensions and a 900 sq ft hydrotherapy pool as well as a forest garden and multi-use games area.

Trafford’s planning and development management committee has also approved an application for five homes at 121 Park Road in Timperley and the replacement of a natural pitch at Crossford Bridge Playing Fields in Sale with an artificial surface with extra parking spaces and floodlights.
