Mason Mount admitted he 'fell in love' at Old Trafford before agreeing terms with Manchester United

Mason Mount could join Manchester United this summer and it would be fitting for him to move to Old Trafford given it was the place of one of his formative football experiences.

United are set for another exciting and expensive summer as they look to build upon the excellent start Erik ten Hag has made to his reign in charge in his first season. The Dutchman's side are still far off from competing with Saturday's FA Cup final opponents Manchester City for the Premier League title and more investment is needed to take them to the next level.

A striker is the priority target to lessen the burden on Marcus Rashford's shoulders to get the goals but Ten Hag also wants another quality midfielder to bolster his ranks. United have already made a strong start on that front by agreeing personal terms to sign Mount.

The Chelsea star is into the final year of his contract and is seeking a move from Stamford Bridge after meeting an impasse in negotiations for a new deal. A fee is yet to be agreed with the London club, however.

But if the 24-year-old did sign for United it would represent a full circle in his young career. Mount, who is a childhood Portsmouth fan, travelled to Manchester when the two sides met in 2008. In the game, Ronaldo stepped up to smash one of his trademark free-kicks into the top-right corner of the Pompey goal.

And a young Mount was left very impressed - so much so that he started modelling his own game on the Portuguese legend.
