Masked robber threatens shop worker with knife - police want to speak to this man

Police are trying to track down a would-be robber who threatened a shop worker with a knife before leaving empty-handed. Officers were called out to Kitt Green Road, in Wigan, after reports of an attempted robbery at the Top Shop Mini-Mart at 8.07pm on Tuesday (March 22).

Following initial enquiries, Greater Manchester Police says a worker at the shop had been threatened by a male who was wearing a mask and carrying a knife. The offender fled the store empty-handed, leaving the worker shaken but not injured.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to. Anyone who recognises the person in the image is encouraged to come forward.

A spokesperson for GMP Wigan West wrote on Facebook: "Do you recognise this male? We want to speak to him following an attempt robbery at Top Shop Mini-Mart on Kitt Green Road on Tuesday at around 8pm.

"A member of staff was threatened by a male who made off empty-handed. We've been following up a number of lines of enquiry since the incident and though the image isn't the best, we're hoping someone may have seen him in the area in the clothing pictured."

Anyone who recognises the man in the picture or who has information about the incident is urged to call GMP on 0161 856 6106 or report it online, quoting incident number 2844 of March 22. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
