Martin Odegaard could persuade Mikel Arteta to rethink bold £25m call in latest Arsenal shake-up

Mikel Arteta has a big decision to make ahead of next season when it comes to deciding who will be the next club captain.

Alexandre Lacazette is the current temporary Arsenal captain, however, there are doubts surrounding his future due to his contract that is set to expire at the end of the season.

Many members of the squad have had backing as to why they should be appointed the next leader, but Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard have emerged as the next favourites to take on the responsibility.

With these two players appearing to be the frontrunners, Chris Davison and Kaya Kaynak discussed who should take on the role on The Arsenal Way’s Pressbox show.

Kaya believes Tierney is next in line for the captaincy but admitted that he would prefer to see Odegaard chosen instead.

“It seems that the next in line is going to be Tierney just from the way we see the captain’s armband handed down currently,” Kaya said.

“But, personally, I am more in favour of Odegaard being the captain next season, as I think he is a lot more vocal. In terms of a spiritual leader, he shows the emotion on the pitch and he is much more vocal.”

Kaya went on to explain why Odegaard would be the perfect leader under someone like Arteta.

“He has everything you can think of for what Arteta would look for in a captain.

“Odegaard fits the right bills and he is obviously a captain at International level as well, so it would be something that is not new to him.

“He is definitely going to be an Arsenal leader for years to come.”
