Markievicz Park to host Sligo v Galway in Connacht semi-final

Sligo will be at home for their provincial SFC semi-final against Galway on Saturday, 20 April, with Connacht GAA confirming that the game will take place at Markievicz Park.

Following last weekend's win over Leitrim, Sligo manager Tony McEntee was hopeful that his side would enjoy home comforts for the visit of the reigning Connacht champions, telling reporters: "This time around it will be a home game. That is what we are expecting."

The counties met in last year's provincial decider, with the Tribesemen winning easily at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. Prior to that they were scheduled to meet in the 2020 Connacht semi-final at Pearse Stadium but Sligo conceded the game after a Covid outbreak in the squad.

Because that clash did not take place it was thought that the next meeting of the pair, outside of them contesting a Connacht final, would take place at the Salthill venue but Connacht officials have made the decision that the Sligo town venue will now welcome Pádraic Joyce's side. The game will have a 3.30pm throw-in.

The second semi-final, featuring Roscommon and Mayo, will take place at Hyde Park on Sunday, 21 April. It's a 4pm throw-in for a game that will be live on RTÉ2 and the RTE Player.
