Mark Selby shines on home soil to win WST Classic

Former world champion Mark Selby won three matches in a day to claim the WST Classic title on home soil in Leicester.

Selby made three centuries as he defeated China's Pang Junxu 6-2 in the final at Morningside Arena to win the first prize of £80,000 [€90, 370].

Pang did not score a single point in the first two frames as Selby compiled breaks of 104 and 138 and the 39-year-old Englishman also made 120 in frame five to lead 4-1.

Although Pang won frame six to reduce his deficit, Selby took the next two to complete the ideal warm-up ahead of next month's World Championship in Sheffield.

Selby had earlier beaten John Higgins 4-2 in the quarter-finals before thrashing Ali Carter 5-0 in the last four, with breaks of 95, 138, 65 and 89 helping restrict Carter to a total of just 50 points in the match.

Pang had conceded just one point in the last two frames as he came from 3-2 down to beat Oliver Lines in the quarter-finals and then made breaks of 91 and 68 in the last two to defeat Gary Wilson 5-4 in their semi-final.
