Margate host Ashford United on Saturday ahead of Isthmian South East play-off match against Burgess Hill Town
Margate are heading towards the play-offs in top form - but the schedule ahead isn’t easy.
A 4-1 win at Thanet rivals Ramsgate on Monday came days after a 6-2 victory over Beckenham. But before Ben Greenhalgh’s men visit Burgess Hill in the play-off semi-finals on Tuesday night, they have a final league game to take care of, at home to Ashford United this Saturday.
Greenhalgh wants to maintain their momentum heading into the Isthmian South East play-offs, but won’t be taking any risks this weekend.
He said: “I am not fussed about having the game [on Saturday] but I don’t like the way the play-offs fall.
“Maybe it’s because we’re Step 4 and the focus is on Step 3 and helping them out more, but if you get to the play-off final that’s three games in seven days.
“You would play Saturday, Tuesday and [the final on] Friday - and for any football team, that’s too much.
“We still want that momentum, and we still want to take it to Ashford and win that game of football. We want to give our fans another three points, and 87 points would be unbelievable, but we do have to manage players.
“There will still be some positions that might be up for grabs. We have an idea of how we’ll go against Burgess Hill, but things can change. We will see what team we can get out, manage the players, but also have the ambition of keeping the momentum and getting three points.
“We are in a position where we have a lot of people firing, we did rest people for Ramsgate. We will have an easy training session on Thursday because we had a busy bank holiday weekend.
“We will rest certain people on Saturday but hopefully we can get everyone 100 per cent by Tuesday, go with a team we think can beat Burgess Hill with substitutes that can come on and have an
