Marcus Rashford sets Manchester United record vs Liverpool FC

Marcus Rashford reached a little known Manchester United record vs Liverpool on Monday night.

The 24-year-old Wythenshawe-born forward played his part in what was an excellent team performance for the Reds at Old Trafford. Jadon Sancho gave the hosts the lead with a composed finish inside the area.

Rashford made it two just after the interval, springing open the Liverpool offside trap to slot home past the reach of Allison. Mohamed Salah would find the back of the net with a header but it was too little, too late for the Merseyside club.

Monday's goal was Rashford's fifth against one of United's arch rivals in all competitions, after 13 appearances against them. His figure against Liverpool is lower than nine other ex-Reds however nobody can match the forward's record at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to United's official website, Rashford has scored more goals than any other player against Liverpool at Old Trafford. He scored twice against them in the Premier League in March 2018 before scoring in a draw the year afterwards.

Before scoring against Jurgen Klopp's side in the FA Cup during the Coronavirus pandemic. To become United's all-time record goalscorer against Liverpool, Rashford will have to score four more goals to sit top of the list alongside George Wall and Sandy Turnbull.
