Manny Pacquiao's son showed off some impressive skill in his first fight win

Manny Pacquiao Jr won by unanimous decision on his boxing debut just six months on from his father’s retirement.

Manny Pacquiao called time on his career back in the September of last year.

It was a sad day for boxing, the Filipino is true boxing royalty, holding the record as the only boxer to have held a world title across four different decades and boasting a staggering record of 62-2-8.

However, fans have had to wait no more than six-months for the Pacquiao name to make its return to the sport.

Manny Pacquiao Jr, nicknamed ‘Jimuel’, made his amateur debut on Saturday night against fellow rookie Andres Rosales in San Diego.

The 21-year-old was coached by his dad’s former assistant Marvin Somodio and romped to an impressive unanimous decision victory.

Pacquiao Jr landed a series of stinging jabs and punchy overhand rights on the resilient Rosales, who refused to go down despite the barrage.

Scorecards weren’t released after the bout; however, a unanimous decision proves a solid start to the boxing career for the son of a great.

His proud father took to Instagram after the fight to congratulate his son:

“Congratulations to my son @pacquiao.emmanuel on fighting and winning his first US amateur fight at junior welterweight!

“I’m so proud of you.”

Jimuel’s trainer Marvin Somodio also seemed optimistic and remains hopeful for the youngster’s chances going forward in the sport.

“This is only his first amateur fight, but he showed me that he has heart. He’ll get better and stronger.”

It’s worth remembering that despite himself, Pacquiao didn’t want this career for his son.
