Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea to secure the services of Thomas Tuchel this summer.
The Blues have been hit with a number of restrictions in the wake of the UK government’s decision to freeze Roman Abramovich’s assets due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The club have also been put up for sale; all of which means Chelsea are currently no longer in a position to offer new contracts to their array of stars, and they also won't be able to sign players in the summer.
There are also no guarantees that the club’s prospective new owners will financially back the club in the same manner as Abramovich to allow them to continue to compete for top honours domestically and in Europe.
Merson believes that United, who will appoint a permanent manager to succeed Ralf Rangnick in the summer; should capitalise Chelsea’s precarious situation to appoint Tuchel.
"If I'm Man United, I'd be all over the manager: this manager is top drawer, I don’t care what anybody says," Merson said whilst discussing the Blues' predicament on Soccer Saturday.
"I think he is world, world class and if I was Man United now I'd be tapping him up straight away."
After taking over from Frank Lampard in January 2021 Tuchel won the Champions League as well as securing a top four finish last season.
