Manchester United urged not to sell Marcus Rashford as he's advised to 'get back to basics'

Manchester United have been urged not to sell Marcus Rashford in the summer.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that Rashford is considering his future at United after he was left out of the starting XI once again in Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. The defeat means Ralf Rangnick's side no longer occupy a place in the top four.

However, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes it would be foolish of United to let Rashford leave at the end of the season. He explained : "It's been two or three months and there is talk of Rashford being moved on. Seriously?

"No manager in their right mind would come to Old Trafford and offload Rashford. Even if I was going to take over the club as manager tomorrow morning, I wouldn't be letting Rashford go.

"This is why Manchester United are in a shambles, how haven't they got a manager in place now? Whoever does come in as manager isn't going to get rid of Rashford, so the move will have to be done before then, that's if it is going happen."

Merson did admit that Rashford's confidence is at an all-time low. But the former Arsenal man believes the England international can get back to his best if he concentrates on the basics in his game.

"Everything has been great since Rashford came on the scene, you couldn't write it in a book if you tried," he added. "Now he has lost confidence and he's finding it hard.

"His confidence is shot. This is the first time he has lost it since he walked into the Manchester United team. I feel sorry for Rashford. It's a horrible feeling when you lose your confidence in football, but even more so when it happens for the first time.
