Manchester United transfer news LIVE Frenkie de Jong latest, Cristiano Ronaldo updates

Manchester United's pursuit of Frenkie de Jong continues to rumble on but the Reds may finally have the answer to whether he will sign before the window shuts.

On Sunday morning, the Dutchman was once again used out of position in Xavi's side as Raphinha scored the only goal against rivals Real Madrid. Despite De Jong's stance on his future at Camp Nou, Barca's financial woes continue to loom large.

United completed their tour of Thailand and Australia on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Aston Villa. Despite letting a two-goal lead slip, Ten Hag can feel optimistic following his opening four games in charge.

There were a whole host of standout performers across the tour. However, one Cristiano Ronaldo-sized issue remains.

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT: Do you think Barcelona have conceded that they need to sell De Jong? Have your say here.

Atletico Madrid fans have reacted angrily to reports that their club could be in the running to sign Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old has yet to return for pre-season training under new manager Erik ten Hag with the Reds a matter of weeks away from kicking off their Premier League campaign. United's inactivity in the transfer market and a salary reduction are among the issues that have convinced Ronaldo to try and seek a move away from the club, the Manchester Evening News understands.

One of the clubs touted with a move for Ronaldo is Atletico Madrid. However, following his successful spell with Real Madrid, he is no stranger to fans of Los Blancos' rivals and has scored more goals against them than any club, notching 25 times in 37 meetings.
