Manchester United transfer news LIVE takeover latest plus Kylian Mbappe updates and Declan Rice blow

The summer transfer window will open tomorrow and Manchester United are well underway with their preparations for a summer of huge investment.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first year at Old Trafford but will demand significant financial backing over the coming weeks in order to mount a title challenge. The Dutchman is eyeing a world-class striker and a technical midfielder, with several other positions being explored, given the funds are there.

Those funds may not be enough to land Kylian Mbappe, that is unless Sheikh Jassim wins the takeover race and sets his signs on the Frenchman. Mbappe wrote to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday to inform him he will not sign a deal beyond his current 2024 one, meaning the French side will be forced to sell their star this summer.

Elsewhere, United's interest in Declan Rice looks to be killed off, with Arsenal closing in on the West Ham midfielder after coming closer to the Hammers' £100million-plus valuation.

So much of this depends on who is cashing the cheques through summer, with the drawn out takeover process continuing to frustrate. There is some optimism, however, with reports that a preferred bidder could be decided upon later this week.
