Manchester United takeover latest: Andy Burnham called on to condemn Qatari Sheikh Jassim's bid

The Manchester United takeover process continues to idle along over the Easter weekend.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has been told by a football finance expert that changes to the Premier League's Owners' and Directors' Test will not affect the Nine Two Foundation's bid, while the Glazers are reportedly planning to invite bidders into negotiations over a price in the coming days.

Those same reports also suggest Raine, who are overseeing the bidding process, have also dismissed another offer from Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus' XXI Century Capital investment firm. Here are the latest United takeover headlines:

United Against Sportswashing, an independent group of Manchester United supporters opposing a potential takeover by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, are calling on Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham to condemn the Nine Two Foundation bid due to the state of Qatar's well-documented human rights abuses.

The group believes United's identity is at stake and are writing to key figures asking them to sign an open letter calling for a Sheikh Jassim-led takeover to be blocked. United Against Sportswashing (UAS) are also asking Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, the Football Association and the Governmentto stop any sale from proceeding.

Manchester United shares have dropped a further five per cent as the takeover process continues to idle.

United's stock price peaked at $25.62 on Wednesday, March 22, the initial deadline day, but has gradually declined since. Raine's previous deadline on Friday, February 17, saw stock hit a high of $26.84 on the penultimate day of bidding.
