Manchester United set to face Liverpool in charity legends fixture

A number of Manchester United legends are set to return to Old Trafford this summer as they take on their old rivals Liverpool in a special charity match.

Former United captain Bryan Robson is set to step into the dugout as the manager of the legends side as they reignite their historic rivalry with the Anfield club in a bid to be crowned ‘Legends of the North’.

The match will take place on May 21, with a return leg to follow on Merseyside, and will raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation, will all profits going towards its work with young people.

Having previously managed United’s legends against the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Robson will return as he takes charge against the club’s old enemies.

Players for both sides are set to be announced in the coming weeks, with Robson already looking forward to renewing rivalries.

“It’s always exciting playing against Liverpool; even in legends games that rivalry is still there,” Robson said.

“But, it is also about raising money for Manchester United Foundation, which really helps to encourage and educate young people in communities across Greater Manchester.”
