Manchester United's U21s fixture vs Leicester City postponed

Manchester United's Under-21s fixture against Leicester on Friday night has been postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

United were set to welcome Leicester to Leigh Sports Village in the Premier League 2 but the match will now be rescheduled. The announcement comes after Friday's sporting fixtures were postponed in the wake of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II had died, aged 96, at Balmoral. A statement from Buckingham Palace read: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow." That meant the 10 days of national mourning officially began on Friday.

A statement from United read: "Manchester United's Premier League 2 match with Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village, scheduled for Friday night, has been postponed. All of Friday's games in the division have been called off following the sad news of Her Majesty The Queen's death on Thursday. The fixture had been due to be shown live on MUTV and the Official App.

"The youngsters' next scheduled game is on Friday 16 September, another home assignment against West Ham United. As the nation is in a state of mourning, there will be an impact on sporting events across the United Kingdom."

Regarding the first-team, United's match against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon has also been postponed.
