Manchester United's Marcus Rashford decision must only be taken after bigger issue is addressed

Manchester United have a decision to make over the future of Marcus Rashford as his contract expires in 2023, and it seems the player is also considering what he does next.

MEN Sport understands that he has been disappointed with his lack of playing time under Ralf Rangnick and feels he needs to get on the pitch regularly to have a chance of improving his form. Rashford believes his current predicament might lead to him losing his place in the England squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

At the moment nothing is decided and he is focused on improving himself and waiting to see whether he's in the plans of United's next manager in the summer.

Before United decide whether to cut ties with the player who was once the shining beacon of their academy, they should look at what went wrong on their side of the bargain.

Rashford's career has had peaks and troughs, with the highs arguably being in his debut campaign under Louis van Gaal and last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But this term he returned from a back injury and was unable to affect the game under Solskjaer before the Norwegian's sacking. Under Rangnick he has been unable to adapt to his high pressing game, which involves the whole team in every aspect of the play.

During Rashford's career, he has seen four different managers in the dugout. All four have completely different styles of play and wanted different things from the player. Given the constant chopping and changing, he has never been able to fully adapt or change his style of play before having to change it again.
