Manchester United's appointment of Erik ten Hag, Cristiano Ronaldo's future and transfer plans

Following months of speculation, Manchester United are edging closer and closer towards ending their pursuit for their next permanent manager in the shape of Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

Sources close to United understand that a deal to bring the Dutchman to Old Trafford is 'basically done' and he is expected to pick up the baton from Ralf Rangnick ahead of the start of next season. He was sounded out as United's preferred candidate last month and it is now only a matter of time before he is officially installed as the club's fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

The Dutchman was interviewed for the job a little over three weeks ago and has been the favourite ever since. He is a largely popular choice amongst the supporters and a number of them have been calling for him to get the job ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked back in November.

On Thursday, MEN Sport's chief United writer, Samuel Luckhurst, hosted a Q&A in an attempt to try and answer as many questions as possible that United's supporters had for him, ranging from Ten Hag's impending arrival to Cristiano Ronaldo's future and the club's summer transfer plans.

Q: What is the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo? Do you see him staying if United miss out on the Champions League? Also, does it hinder Ten Hag's style of play and which striker do you think United will go for?

SL: Rangnick has reservations about Ronaldo's role going forward
