Manchester United respond to Barcelona's Harry Maguire 'inquiry' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have reportedly rebuffed Barcelona’s wish to include Harry Maguire in a swap deal for Frenkie de Jong.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the two clubs are hopeful of reaching an agreement on the Dutchman. However, United are seemingly not willing to give up ground.

The Spanish giants are facing another hard summer amid their financial issues. They may have to sell a number of their players in order to work within La Liga transfer rules.

And even then, the club may have to resort to low-cost or free recruits. And Maguire is the latest player to have reportedly been wanted by Barcelona.

The Sun report that United have rejected the proposal for him to be included as part of a swap deal, with Erik ten Hag said to be keen to work with the centre-back. They say United will seal a De Jong capture for £69m.

Elsewhere, Fulham have tabled an £8.6m bid for Andreas Pereira, according to The Athletic. The midfielder has returned to Old Trafford after a deal with loan club Flamengo failed to materialise.

Pereira only has 12 months left on his contract but Fulham have submitted a proposed fee that could rise to £11m. Pereira has not played for United in two years and was on the brink of securing a permanent move to Flamengo before the deal fell through.
