Manchester United pursuing Neymar doesn't make sense as it repeats the mistakes of the past

Manchester United may be in the market for a forward this summer, but a report from France has thrown up an unlikely name. Paris Saint-Germain are moving away from their 'Bling' era of big-money signings and with that they want to part ways with Neymar and French journalist Loic Tanzi has named the club as a potential destination.

The report states that Neymar could be a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo if the Portuguese forward were to leave Old Trafford. The Manchester Evening News understands that United have deemed their famous number seven 'not for sale' and are confident he will be part of the squad next season.

But Ronaldo's unlikely departure aside, there are a number of reasons why a move for Neymar would not make sense for United this summer. Firstly, he is injury prone; the constant joke that he is injured around March is not without basis and over the past three seasons he has missed 56 games through a number of different injuries.

This is a massive issue, especially when you consider the high wages that Neymar would be commanding without the availability to back it up. He is an incredibly talented forward with the ability to get the fans on their feet with his armoury of skills and tricks, but if he isn't able to get on the pitch, what's the point.

He also doesn't fit the profile of the sort of player United should be targetting. He is left-side dominant (like every forward at United) and seeing how Erik ten Hag reportedly wants a right-winger, with Neymar's Brazillian compatriot Antony being targetted, this doesn't seem like a smart move.
