Manchester United might be about to be taught a transfer lesson by one of their fiercest rivals

Leeds United are said to be closing in on the signing of PSV forward Cody Gakpo, with the Yorkshire club hoping to sign the youngster after an electric start to the season.

The 23-year-old has scored eight league goals in as many games so far this season, notching six assists in the process, while he's also produced some brilliant performances in the Europa League.

United could soon find themselves on the brink of a frontline crisis, with Cristiano Ronaldo looking like he could be set for a move away from the club in January. With Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both enduring injury issues over the past few seasons, Erik ten Hag will know he can't leave himself too short.

Gakpo generally operates in a wide-left role, yet he can also play as a striker, meaning Ronaldo's potential exit would not have been so much of an issue had the PSV starlet arrived at Old Trafford in the summer.

However, with reports emerging that a move to Leeds could be close, this could reduce the chances of Gakpo ever signing for United given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

It is too soon to be judging whether or not the money spent on Antony will prove to be a good deal for the club or not, though two goals in his first two Premier League matches suggest he's already on his way to repaying the £85million United paid for him in the summer.

That being said, the Brazil international has struggled to make an impact at times since his Old Trafford switch and he's clearly still adapting to life at a club like United.
