Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag sends support to Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastian Haller

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has sent his best wishes to Sebastian Haller after medical tests revealed he had a testicular tumour.

On Monday it was announced that the Borussia Dortmund striker had been feeling unwell during the German club's pre-season tour in Switzerland. Following examination by the medical team, the tumour was discovered.

Haller was managed by Ten Hag last season in Amsterdam. The former West Ham man enjoyed a brilliant campaign under the 52-year-old, scoring 21 goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances.

Following United's 3-1 pre-season victory over Crystal Palace, Ten Hag took the opportunity to send his best to one of his ex-players. "It's horrible," the Reds' boss told MUTV.

"I have a fantastic relationship with him. He is my friend, my striker for several years with Utrecht and with Ajax.

"To hear such news is devastating. My thoughts are with him and with his family and I hope he will recover quickly."

Haller thanked well-wishers for their words on Tuesday. He said: "Thank you all for your many messages of support and affection since yesterday’s announcement.

"My family and I thank you. I will now focus on my recovery to come back stronger."
