Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gives verdict on Hannibal Mejbri and James Garner

Erik ten Hag has praised Hannibal Mejbri's contribution to Manchester United's pre-season tour, but wants to see more of James Garner before making a decision on his future.

Hannibal made his first appearance on the tour against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and Ten Hag has also been pleased with his performances in training during United's time in Bangkok, Melbourne and Perth.

But Garner has suffered a frustrating time of things, having picked up a knock on the first day of the tour that has so far kept him out of all three games.

The 21-year-old was back in training at the start of this week and could get an opportunity against Aston Villa at the Optus Stadium on Saturday.

Garner could yet head out on loan to another Premier League club before the transfer window closes, but Ten Hag is keen to get a closer look at him before making a decision.

"James Garner integrated into training this week, so I haven't seen him. I don't have a full impression of him and I want to see more. I will then answer the question, and make conclusions and decisions," said Ten Hag.

"Hannibal Mejbri, he plays some minutes now and I think he did quite well, in training as well. He makes quite a good impression. I think they do well [youngsters].

"I also know the standards in the Premier League are really high and it's always about are they ready to take the responsibility to play, to contribute. That's what I have to prove and I will take my decisions. It's clear some of them have potential."

Ten Hag included some youngsters in his pre-season tour squad, but he's picked strong teams to start the games against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace and 17-year-old Alejandro
