Manchester United make WSL derby statement as Man City sign Brazilian star

Both Manchester United Women and Manchester City Women experienced derby day success this week, each earning the bragging rights in a derby day double-header.

After United won Sunday's Women's Super League [WSL] meeting at the Etihad Stadium 4-2, City inflicted revenge on Marc Skinner's team as soon as Wednesday night, winning 2-1 at Leigh Sports Village in the League Cup quarter-finals.

City's reward for getting the better of their neighbours is a semi-final showdown away from home against Arsenal next month. The Gunners are the current holders and have won the competition in each of the last two seasons.

United went into last Sunday's derby at the Etihad two places and one point behind City in the WSL table and having lost their last three meetings with their cross-city rivals. But a hat-trick from Ella Toone saw the Reds roar their way to a 4-2 win.
