Manchester United make decision on Will Fish

Manchester United defender Will Fish has agreed to rejoin Hibernian on another season-long loan.

The 20-year-old has been named in the United squad for today's pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Oslo and is expected to travel to Edinburgh for next Wednesday's game with Lyon at Murrayfield.

Fish is then due to remain in the Scottish capital and begin preparing for the new season with Hibs.

The academy graduate spent last season with Hibs, where Fish established himself as a regular in the starting line-up under manager Lee Johnson.

Fish endured a slow start to life in Scotland but took his chance in the first team and started 17 consecutive games in the league before his deal expired.

The Manchester Evening News understands interest was high in Fish after his breakthrough campaign, but he was eager to build upon the solid foundations he laid at Hibs.

Fish had been attracting interest from clubs in the Championship and League One, as well as rival clubs in Scotland, including Aberdeen.

United are happy with the academy graduate's progress during his spell in Scotland and believe Hibs can be trusted to oversee the next stage of his development as well.

Johnson has proven he knows how to get the best out of Fish and there is the added bonus of gaining experience in Europe next season after Hibs qualified for the Europa Conference League.

Fish made his senior United debut in the final minute of the final day win over Wolves in the 2020-21 season. He was called up to Erik ten Hag's pre-season tour squad last summer when Axel Tuanzebe left prematurely through injury.
