Manchester United left red-faced as Lou Macari slams Adrien Rabiot pursuit on club's own TV station

Manchester United were left red-faced when club great Lou Macari questioned their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot live on their in-house television studio.

The former midfielder, who played for United for 11 years, was appearing as a studio guest on MUTV as part of their coverage of Erik ten Hag's press conference ahead of the trip to Brentford on Friday.

After hearing from the manager at Carrington, the cameras switched back to the studio environment where presenter Mark Sullivan and guest Macari dissected the media briefing.

Macari, 73, was quizzed on United's summer transfer spending and, instead of giving a positive club spin on things, he instead used the platform to voice his brutally honest take on the window.

The Scottish veteran began by questioning United considered signing Marko Arnautovic before switching his attention to their pursuit of Rabiot.

"I'd never really heard of him," he began on MUTV before questioning his goal return from midfield. "32 league games last season, no goals. Other qualities? I'm not sure I see them. It is about the black and white. Clubs spend millions of pounds scouting players across Europe, but nobody else has made a move for this fella. None of the other English clubs are in for him. Why do you think this is? I have got a bad feeling about the guy."
