Manchester United injury round-up ahead of Brentford clash including Anthony Martial latest

Manchester United nearly have a clean bill of health as they look to bounce back against Brentford this Saturday following their opening day defeat to Brighton.

Erik ten Hag had a disappointing start to life as United manager as he saw his team lose 2-1 thanks to two first-half goals. Cristiano Ronaldo was only deemed fit enough to feature off the substitutes' bench, but the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was not able to salvage something from the match.

Christian Eriksen led the line for the Reds as he played in a false nine position that appeared to have been a tactical gamble gone wrong from Ten Hag. An injury picked up by Anthony Martial in pre-season stopped fans from seeing if he could carry on the goalscoring momentum he found in Thailand and Australia while on tour.

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in training and was unavailable to face Brighton, with no return date being given just yet. Martial was in fine form during pre-season as he was trusted by Ten Hag to lead the line.

Scoring three goals in five games, the seemingly revitalised forward looked ready to replicate the form that he showed during the 2019/20 season where he scored 17 Premier League goals for the club.

Speaking on August 7, Ten Hag said: "It's difficult to say [how long]. With his injury, we have to wait until tomorrow for how we will progress, but we have one week [until the next game]."
