Manchester United holding talks to try and sell Casemiro
Manchester United have engaged several agents to try and sell Casemiro before the transfer deadline.
United have touched base with a number of intermediaries ahead of Monday's 11pm transfer deadline to identify a possible buyer for the 32-year-old midfielder.
Casemiro, 32, has 18 months left on his United contract but he has become such a peripheral squad member that the 21-year-old Toby Collyer started ahead of him in the Europa League wins against Rangers and FCSB.
United head coach Ruben Amorim only introduced Casemiro in Bucharest on Thursday night after the team went 2-0 up in what was Casemiro's first appearance in exactly a month.
The former Real Madrid midfielder is effectively United's sixth-choice midfielder now that Bruno Fernandes is playing in a deeper role. Christian Eriksen also lined up in the Rangers and FCSB matches.
When asked why Casemiro was not selected against Rangers last week, Amorim said: "He has to have the characteristics and then I have to choose the player with characteristics that I see the game. So it’s just that.
"I have to make some choices. I want to play a style of game that is sometimes different from other coaches and I have to choose based on that, that’s all."
United signed Casemiro from Madrid for £60million rising to £70m in August 2022 on a four-year contract with the option of an additional year.
With the cost of a player spread across the length of his contract, United would require an unlikely fee of £22.5m to sell Casemiro before the transfer deadline and avoid a loss under the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.
