Manchester United have the ideal transfer target to replace Edinson Cavani

Manchester United fans are growing increasingly frustrated with Edinson Cavani’s lack of game time for the club.

When available, he is considered one of United’s best attacking assets due to not only his efficiency in front of goal but also his ability to relentlessly press and harry opposition defences without the ball.

Yet appearances continue to be too few and far between.

Cavani has missed the last three games with a groin injury, while a stomach problem kept him out of Sunday's Premier League victory at Leeds despite the previous evening watching boxer Kell Brook defeat Amir Khan in the city.

It was confirmed this week by Ralf Rangnick that he was to be absent again for Manchester United's Champions League round-of-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid.

"No, Edi will not be able to make the trip," the interim boss said. “He didn't train, he has not been training the last couple of weeks, so he won't be part of the group.

"He has problems with his groin and as long as he does not feel able to fully sprint, it doesn't make sense to train him and to force him back into training. He's got enough experience by himself to know when he's fully available again."

As it stands Cavani’s current deal is due to expire in the summer. And despite his age, now 35, some fans up until recently were keen to see the Uruguayan extend his stay at Old Trafford for another year.

Yet it seems that only a minority of fans now feel this way, with most instead eager to see him replaced with a younger forward who is more reliable in terms of availability.
