Manchester United have found the perfect alternative to Jude Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong

Though it may be the most important, a striker is not the only player Manchester United need to sign this summer.

David de Gea's struggles in Seville have once again raised the issue of an upgrade in between the sticks, the injury crisis at the back has highlighted the need for reinforcements at centre-back and right-back and Erik ten Hag wants to add another quality midfielder to his ranks. Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have formed an excellent trifecta but United are considerably worse when even one of them isn't available.

Though both have made occasional positive contributions, Fred and Scott McTominay just aren't on the same level, Marcel Sabitzer is only on loan and Donny van de Beeks' days at Old Trafford look numbered. It's clear why the manager wants more technically assured players at his disposal, especially as Casemiro and Eriksen are north of 30 and have missed large chunks of the campaign.

If United are to continue building on the great work Ten Hag has done, then it's crucial they get their summer business right. It's reassuring, at least, that plans are already being drawn up and they are aiming high. A level of ambition that Ten Hag has earned and deserves.
