Manchester United have an easy decision to make on Ansu Fati after Barcelona transfer comments

It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to say Ansu Fati has been unlucky in recent years. The Spain international was tipped to follow the same trajectory as Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, with both being branded as the next generation of super stars.

But while his counterpart has hit the spotlight, Fati has not quite been able to follow the same path. Surgery on a knee injury in 2020 did not have the desired effect and two further procedures in the following months did little to admonish the problem.

Fati was so fed up with going under the knife he defied the orders of Barcelona doctors by refusing to have a fourth surgery in six months, insisting other options were taken. Fati has had fewer problems this season but there are fears the 20-year-old may never get the chance to reach his full potential.

His natural quality is evident and still present though, and Xavi has not ignored it. He is, however, cautious about his usage of the player.

This term, Fati has featured in 38 games but has started just 11 of those although has still managed to bag six goals and three assists. Links with a United move have always been tentative and, bluntly, unrealistic given the legions of wide attackers present at the club.

If his injury concerns and his reported €1billion release cause were two reasons to dismiss a transfer, then his father has just handed United another. Bori Fati released a tirade of frustration at Barcelona while speaking to Catalan radio station COPE this week.
