Manchester United guaranteed to be without nine players for Premier League fixture vs West Ham

Manchester United are poised to be without up to nine players for this afternoon's Premier League clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium.

United, who trained at Brisbane Road - the home of Leyton Orient - yesterday, have seen their injury list increase quite sharply in recent weeks, with Antony the latest addition to it. The Brazilian, who is now into his third season at Old Trafford, was forced off in the closing stages of Thursday night's 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in the Europa League in Istanbul with what is understood to have been an ankle sprain.

He left the pitch on a stretcher 16 minutes after coming off the bench and later left the stadium requiring crutches. He was also sporting a protective boot on his left foot.

Manager Erik ten Hag was unable to provide a diagnosis in the immediate aftermath of the game, saying: "I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training. His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it's not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is."

Unlikely to be involved this afternoon, Antony has joined an injury list that features too many players for Ten Hag's liking. The Dutchman is significantly light on midfield options at the moment, with Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Toby Collyer and Dan Gore all currently sidelined.
