Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand "can't fathom" Chelsea sacking Thomas Tuchel

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that he "can't fathom" Chelsea's decision to sack Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues have had a difficult start to the season having won just three of their six Premier League matches so far. Tuesday night's Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb was clearly the tipping point for Chelsea's new owners, as Todd Boehly decided enough is enough.

With the departure of Roman Abramovich, and the change of ownership at the club, many fans thought that a new era of patience might be on the horizon in West London. Following United's four successive league wins under Erik ten Hag, the Reds sit above Chelsea in the table as the club bids farewell to Tuchel.

In the aftermath of the news, Ferdinand revealed that he had only spoken to the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager a week before he parted ways with the club. The former United man spoke to his YouTube channel as he simply could not get to grips with the news.

He said: "I was with him last week. I interviewed him last week, I went to Chelsea’s training ground last week, I’ve got a really good relationship with Thomas Tuchel. I got a thing here, a couple of things he said, I said ‘what’s it like with new ownership?’ He said ‘it’s not worse, it’s not better, it’s just new.’ Those are his comments. It obviously wasn’t perfect behind the scenes because he would’ve said ‘nah, it’s brilliant etc’ but he was very open and honest and that’s what I love about him."

The speed of the Chelsea manager's sacking also caught Ferdinand by surprise, especially after news was circulating last month of a new deal
