Manchester United get ONE STAR food hygiene rating after investigation into 'raw chicken' served at Old Trafford

Manchester United have been slammed by food inspectors after allegations that raw chicken was served at an event at Old Trafford. The football club's food hygiene rating has been downgraded from five to one following the incident which took place last month.

Several people made complaints after the event which hosted 275 people at the stadium on November 21. Inspectors were sent to the club three days later and today (December 22), the Food Standards Agency announced that 'major improvement' is needed.

Inspectors criticised the management of food safety at Manchester United and found that improvement was also necessary with the hygienic handling of food at the club. However, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building was deemed 'good'.

The club's food hygiene rating has now been downgraded from five to one which means Manchester United is marked as 'major improvement necessary' by the Food Standards Agency. The M.E.N. understands the latest inspection was related to the incident.

A Trafford council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the hygiene rating for Old Trafford (Manchester United) has been downgraded from five to one. This follows a food hygiene investigation following an incident where undercooked food was served at an event on 21 November."
