Manchester United face Cristiano Ronaldo problem as he equals unwanted record vs Burnley

Cristiano Ronaldo extended his run without a goal to five matches following Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday evening.

In a surprise decision sprung by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Ronaldo was dropped to the bench for the short trip to the Lancashire-based outfit, with Edinson Cavani preferred up front.

After Jay Rodriguez had cancelled out Paul Pogba's first half effort to bring Burnley level just two minutes into the start of the second half, Rangnick called upon Ronaldo to step off the bench with 68 minutes on the clock, in a bid to restore United's lead.

The Portuguese star, who has scored 14 times this season since sealing a sensational return from Juventus back in August, however, failed to make any sort of impact on the game, with his best opportunity to put the Reds back in front seeing him head the ball over the crossbar from close range.

Ronaldo's latest blank in front of goal has extended his run of matches without a goal in all competitions to five matches, meaning he now finds himself on his worst run without scoring at club level for 11 years, dating all the way back to a dry spell he experienced with Real Madrid back in 2011.

Four of his last five blanks have come in the Premier League, whilst he wasted the chance to end his drought against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Friday evening, dragging a first half penalty wide of the target.

Furthermore, the Portugal international has now failed to score in each of his last 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League, dating back to when he scored twice off the bench in a 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic in December 2006.
